Stearman Project For Sale

This is a very complete PT-17 (A75-N1) project. The quality of restoration to this point form the basis for an award-winning, authentic Stearman restoration.

Depending on your level of interest in doing the remaining wing wood work yourself, your budget and your time frame for getting into the air, this project is offered with your choice of extent of completion.

Same as General Configuration except Upper and Lower Wing Panels and Center Section completed with all new wood, hand varnished and covered with Stits POLYFIBER fabric and tapes ready for spray coat finishing.

General Description

Fuselage is ready for fabric, with all new stringers and channels. After jig inspection and completion of any needed repair , fuselage was bead blasted, primed, then painted with DP40 epoxy in original shade of green, but with a higher gloss (easier to keep clean). Every nut and bolt is new.

Both cockpits are complete and correct with rebuilt throttle quadrants and controls, parking brake, seats, etc.. Original, un-cut instrument panels with new shock mounts. Very nice windshield frames.

Firewall forward is complete with oil tank, exhaust system and stainless steel “dishpan” assembly. New stainless firewall with all the bell crank assemblies, engine mount and induction system installed.

Sheet metal is in good shape, has been installed to confirm fit but DZUS fasteners still need to be replaced for appearance. Baggage door still needs some work.

Landing gear is complete with new shock struts and seals. All gear fairing clamps cleaned and painted. Original ALUMINUM gear leg fillet fairings. Original BENDIX master cylinders. New diamond tread tires with new tubes. New wheel bearings and races, Firestone tail wheel tire with new tube and wheel bearings.

Control surfaces complete. Horizontal stabilizer has been recovered through silver. The fuel tank is straight, with a new original style floating fuel gauge.

All of the struts, flying wires, attachment fittings, torque tubes, trim cables, pulleys, etc. are in excellent condition.

The propeller is a McCauley with 10 hours since major overhaul (yellow Tag and log).

The engine is a Continental 220, complete with accessories but still requires overhaul.

Items not included:
Engine overhaul/exchange. JASCO alternator. RED LINE brake conversion. Instruments. Fabric and dope depending on Configuration “A” or “B”.
